One two-month cruise circling Australia has been cancelled days after the death of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the crew discovered the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation found her body the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a order to the Captain" banning any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The representative said that they would attend the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

Guests on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of money to take part in the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkeling.

Relatives Response

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "stunned and grieved that the ship left the island after an scheduled outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic elderly person" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited details we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of attention and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the operator should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to return, unescorted. Then the boat left, reportedly without doing a roll call.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, mum passed away, alone."

Organization Position

In a statement, the Head verified that the company was "working closely with officials to assist their inquiry".

He said that the organization was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Procedures

The vessel accommodates up to 120 guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to corporate data. It was purpose-built to reach distant areas of the Australian shoreline and is outfitted with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry passengers on shore trips.

Incidents of this nature are infrequent, and cruise ships have procedures to track which passengers are boarding or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship really isn't an possibility," one expert commented.

Shipping companies consider these procedures very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such events from happening," the authority added.

"This is probably a shocking - and tragic - isolated incident."
