The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
