The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
