Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
