Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future after another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with performances like these.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”

“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
