Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems after leaving the playing area on the second morning in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins at the end of the week.

England have already lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman to a side strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, before adding 28 while batting as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the previous Test.
