Democrats Criticize Trump After He Claims They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials expressed anger after former President Donald Trump charged a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and stated they should be taken into custody and penalized "with execution" following their release of a controversial video.

The Recording That Sparked the Dispute

The recorded message, published on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in military or intelligence roles.

"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to defend and uphold this national charter," the representatives affirmed in the short video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution don't only come from abroad, but from domestically. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline unlawful commands, you can refuse unlawful commands, you must refuse improper directives. No one has to execute orders that contravene the legal system or our national charter."

Trump's Furious Response

The recorded statement appeared to provoke a furious response from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he wrote: "This represents really concerning, and Risky to our United States. Their words cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a comment that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials Respond

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership published a combined statement condemning the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no role in the United States," they declared. "Representatives who appeared in the video all acted our United States with great loyalty and distinction. We strongly censure Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against members of Congress, and urge House Republicans to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also mentioned that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme online messages and withdraw his dangerous discourse before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Representatives' Firm Reaction

The officials who appeared in the video also published a statement.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who value this United States and took an oath to defend and uphold the constitution of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we aim to keep it. No intimidation, coercion, or incitement will stop us from that fundamental obligation."

"The significant point is that the former president views it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to restate the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should know that we have their protection as they carry out their pledge to the national charter and duty to follow only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "All citizens must come together and censure the former president's demands for our execution and political violence. This is a period for ethical certainty."

Further Partisan Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's remarks and published on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is calling for the execution of public representatives."

He continued: "This represents an outright THREAT. All senators, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should censure this right away and without qualification."

The GOP leader supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "sedition", labeling the video as "extremely improper", adding: "This represents very dangerous, you have leading members of Congress instructing troops to disobey orders, I think that represents without precedent in the nation's past."

The GOP official also reportedly informed the press that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "defining the violation of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to analyze the terminology and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when questioned by a media member, "Is the president want to execute elected officials?", the White House press secretary replied: "Certainly not."

"It's important to note about what the former president is addressing," the representative stated. "There are current representatives of the US Congress who coordinated to organize a video message to individuals of the national defense, to active duty service members urging them to disobey the executive's proper directives."

She said: "The sanctity of our armed forces relies on the hierarchy, and if that system is broken, it can cause fatalities, it can result in chaos, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are basically promoting."
