Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
